The Exquisite Corpse – Insight Into The Human Body
The ‘Exquisite Corpse – Insight Into The Human Body’ is a ground-breaking truly integrated interdisciplinary anatomy and art course. Designed for both science and visual art students, the course is co-taught by academics from the Australian National University Medical School and School of Art & Design.
Our distinctive curriculum design is highly innovative in that it re-evaluates the traditional partnering of art and anatomy in education in favour of a contemporary approach. Gone is the old relationship, in which art serves to simply illustrate anatomy, or where anatomy is used to create the ideal aesthetic of the body as exemplified in the works of the great masters of the Renaissance. Synthesis is at the heart of our approach, bringing together ideas from disparate areas is what creates something that is brand new, shedding the images of each of its parents. Built into the course is the subjective point of view, with students consistently being led to reflect on their own life experiences to give greater significance to their work.
